KBFD first went on the air in April of 2004 as a low power Part 15 FM serving the small community of Sunset Beach, Oregon after starting as an Internet station a year earlier. The FM and Internet stations quickly gained a loyal following by "word of mouth" to friends in nearby Beach communities, not to mention our bumper sticker campaign. After 14 years of broadcasting and netcasting out of our garage, we sold the home so the FM went off the air. Here on this website we bring you fine alternative music programing through the links on our home page as the spirit of the original KBFD continues right here and on the air for those lucky folks listening in Walnut Grove!

"Cactus Pete" got his start in broadcasting in 1977 during his senior year in High School when he co-hosted a radio show on KTUC in Tucson, Arizona as a panel of youths interviewed prominent people, politicians etc. He always loved music and started listening to AM Top 40 Radio in 1966 on KTKT Tucson, KRUX in Phoenix AZ and that Famous "Border Blaster" that broadcast from south of the border, XROCK80. By 1974 he was listening to Progressive FM Rock on KWFM-FM Tucson (see our tribute page und "More" on the top navigation bar.) While stationed in West Germany he was influenced by Radio Luxembourg and American Forces Radio. After leaving the army he began working in Tucson and Phoenix radio and then on to Q105 and KUIK in Portland, Oregon. After leaving commercial radio and understanding corporate radio was no longer about quality and artistic freedom in programing and only about profits, he realized his town of Sunset Beach, Oregon was the perfect place for an alternative format. Fortunately the internet was developing and Pete was also the overnight DJ at Radio Free Phoenix, a well known pioneer internet station. Listen online to our internet link and enjoy a new and different radio experience.
